Los Angeles (dpa) - The best picture Oscar contrasts the story of a king to overcome a speech impediment II Sunday to lead his people battle through the war against the legend, as a student created Facebook, which now fall to help the citizens of their leader in the Middle East.
"The King's Speech" won the screenplay Oscar, while "The Social Network" won for best adapted screenplay for the first hour of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood Kodak Theatre on Sunday night.
"My father always told me, I'd be late," "King's Speech" scribe David Seidler said, noting that by 73 he was the oldest winner ever in the category. "I hope this is an issue early and often broken."
"Social Network" beat "The King's Speech" for best film music.
Three other candidates have also won Oscars for best film in the first hour of the show.
Christian Bale has repeated his Golden Globe and won the SAG Award for best supporting actor Oscar for his role in "The Fighter".
Melissa Leo, who played the mother and manager of two boxers in "The Fighter", completed his trifecta of major awards, when 94-year-old Kurt Douglas gave him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Leo won the Golden Globe and SAG awards for Best Actress.
Douglas, who walked with a cane and spoke with slurred speech is slow, Leo with his distant Read jokes humor delay was in the envelope. His stand-up routine was rewarded with big laughs.
Leo, whose acceptance speech contains an expletive censored Douglas uses sugar cane to walk off the stage.
"Inception," a film that explores the human mind and dreams, won the Oscar for cinematography, sound editing and sound mixing. The film is also a candidate for best picture, even though most of the film eight nominations in technical categories.
Other top awards went to "Toy Story 3" for the animated feature, which is also a competitor for best film.
"The Lost Thing" won for animated shorts.
"True Grit", was based on the same book from the 1969 John Wayne film nominated 10 times, including Jeff Bridges for best actor Hailee Steinfeld best supporting actress and best film in competition.
The four other nominees for best film are "Black Swan", "The Kids Are All Right", "127 hours" and "Winter's Bone".
Colin Firth, the stuttering portrait of King George VI in "The King's Speech", is widely considered the favorite for best actor. The other category nominees are Javier Bardem, who in Favorites "Biutiful," Bridges for "True Grit," Eisenberg of "social network", and James Franco for "127 hours".
Natalie Portman, who played a dancer in "Black Swan" and Annette Bening for "The Kids Are Alright" is considered a pioneer for best actress. The other nominees are Nicole Kidman for "Rabbit Hole", Jennifer Lawrence of "Winter's Bone" and Michelle Williams for "Blue Valentine".
"What happened in an extraordinary journey of this film for me," Kidman said after hearing of his appointment.
