The 235 meters of Delta IV Heavy Launch Vehicle will be called the largest rocket ever to be launched on the West Coast of the United States to life. The rocket carrying a classified spy satellite.
"The collaboration between the 30th Space Wing, the National Reconnaissance Office, United Launch Alliance and many other facilities has been our first Delta IV HLV Vandenberg Air Force Base in traffic," said Col. Keith Balts 30 Space Wing commander and vice Launch authority's decision.
The Associated Press reported that "Launch Control said the flight will succeed.
The Delta IV was started five times before, but previous starts were in Florida.
Lieutenant Ann K. Blodzinski, a spokesman for the Air Force said that officials of the word Vandenberg rocket launches massive shoreline would be received."Even if you do not see it, you certainly feel," she said of the missile at the Los Angeles Times. "It is much more powerful than our typical early Vanden Berg."
Several locations in the vicinity such as parks were closed in preparation for launch.
"Everybody is in their front yard this to be one," Mayor John Linn of the nearby town of Lompoc told the Los Angeles Times. "Living here, you launched. But this is different. This is the Big Kahuna. "
