SAN FRANCISCO - A small earthquake of magnitude 4.1 struck the Californian city of San Jose and surrounding area on Friday afternoon, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at about 4.10 clock (0010 GMT Saturday), about 13 miles (20 kilometers) south-east was the city of San Jose, the report said.

There were no reports of injuries or damage is detected, the paper.

The reading was on the moment magnitude scale open, now used by U.S. seismologists, which the site of the fault that ruptured and released all the energy measurements.
