Hanukkah 2010 starts officially tonight the sunset. This is the earliest start to the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah also known over the past eight years. Early 2010 Hanukkah Eve marks the beginning of a Jewish festival of lights, lasting eight nights. Hanukkah celebrates a military victory by the Jews of Syria Seleucidite Greeks long ago in 165 BC. Hanukkah begins on 25 Kislev Day on the Hebrew calendar.
In New York, Central Park, the holiday is a giant menorah lighting the sky, starting Wednesday night in the spotlight.
Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting candles in a menorah every night. A menorah has eight candles of the candelabra holds. A ninth session, the branch has increased is known as the Shamash.
Several celebrities will attend the festival this year. Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, David Arquette, Sarah Michelle Gellar, to name a few.
