The eruption of Brazil is a miracle hair straightener for many who fight frizz, bad hair day. But the product contains formaldehyde and has been linked to cancer, based on an investigation.
If you regularly visit some of the fashion shows in your area, chances are you've heard of adjustment popular hair treatment for a queen.
This special treatment is known by several names such as Brazilian Keratin Treatment Brazilian Hair or system recovery.
Most are familiar with the names of many states, the eruption of Brazil. Everything starts in the living room when the hair stylist preps by washing and drying.
It is followed by separation of the hair with tweezers and other tools of the trade. Then the product, usually a solution based on keratin hair is brushed on and sealed room with an iron.
What follows is steam and smoke rising to pepper the air by the process in motion, comes to ABC News.
The problem is not with the process itself, or even with keratin. In fact, keratin, a natural protein in hair, and it is not in itself a health risk.
The problem, however, formaldehyde, which is part of keratin-based product. While many manufacturers are only one tenth of one percent of the solution, wherein OSHA investigation revealed some surprising findings.
In many of the federal agency surveyed a large majority of them are actually more than the stated amount of formaldehyde - much more.
In small quantities, it is not a problem. As larger quantities with the frequency used, over time, however, could be a hair treatment keratin, such as Brazil Blowout threat to health. It is also linked to cancer in some cases.
If the products tested contained Brazilian Blowout OSHA actually a alarmingly 8 percent formaldehyde content. That prompted widespread testing of other products that have yielded similar results.
At least the inclusion of formaldehyde in larger amounts over a long period may cause eye irritation and respiratory problems.
Many users of the controversial product that the benefits outweigh the risk. If a person is facing a bad day, they will certainly roll up their sleeves and welcome the debate on the safety of the eruption of Brazil.
