What is known, that "War Eagle" is what Auburn is "Roll Tide" from Alabama - identify and use a greeting Auburn athletes and students to engage in name. But nobody seems to know where it came from.
A popular theory is that a soldier from Alabama, the only survivor of a particularly bloody battle Confederate Civil War. Somewhere in this battle, he came upon a wounded eagle, which he maintained healthy again. Back to Auburn, where the soldier went to school as a faculty member, he has an eagle on campus with him. The eagle turned then have said, the fans exciting in the first game of the season at Auburn 1892.
Like Georgia, the Bulldogs used as a real mascot, Auburn had seven numbered War Eagles over the years. The last officially named War Eagle VII in 2006.
In a live video taken Thurs Oregon before the BCS National Championship, Auburn and Oregon, and Erin Andrews are members of the Eagle asked about the origin of the war.
