Three people, including a couple from Kent who survived a shipwreck in Sri Lanka have been having contacted the coastguard in Cornwall.
Falmouth Coastguard received a call asking for medical advice Tuesday night, when the master of 14m (46ft) "Baccus" wounded in the arm.
Less than an hour later, in "terrible" storm the yacht began to sink.
The couple Broadstairs and a Belgian man has been rescued by a nearby ship.
The Maritime and Coastguard (MCA) said that what appeared to be a routine investigation soon be a big help.
Falmouth Coastguard arranged for medical advice provided by connecting the call to the crew Baccus medical care at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth.
MaydayThe crew contacted the coastguard at Falmouth again less than an hour later by satellite phone to say that in the wind force 11 winds, seas and rough seas, they had lost steerage of the vessel leaky.
Not with a wounded captain and pumps on board works, the crew has an emergency call for advice from Falmouth.
Working with Rescue Coordination Centre Maritime (MRCC) in Colombo and MRCC Mumbai in India, a satellite broadcasting Falmouth based on ships in the area of the yacht disabled.
Falmouth Coastguard then requested the Baccus its position beacon (EPIRB) and the crew was rescued after the position reports were transmitted to four rescue vessels.
The sinking yacht was abandoned and the crew aboard the merchant vessel Maersk Surabaya, taken on the way to Malaysia.
