A chairlift to the highest mountain in Maine Ski derailed yesterday, injuring eight people, crashed 25 feet of the mountain, officials said resort.
The ordeal has left another 150 people on the elevator at Sugarloaf Mountain Ski Resort in Carrabassett Valley, some for as long as two cooling for hours unattended sustained winds of 25 mph or more, while that the rescue forces at work, officials said.
The injured skier Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Maine were transported, said Ethan Austin, a spokesman for the station. None of the injuries were considered life threatening, officials said.
A rope chairlift in Spillway is one of the 15 derailed on the mountain, somehow out of the elevator ride eighth at 10:30, while I was skiing on the mountain at full capacity " said Austin. Two others were in the chair ski lifts down yesterday because the wind is closed, but tests showed that the morning lift spillway is safe, "he said.
It was the worst derailment at the station, he said.
Two government inspectors were investigating the elevator yesterday afternoon.
Ben Simms, a 18-year-old senior at Harriton Senior High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, was on the lift when the president to derail him. The elevator was built and installed in 1975 and amended in 1983. It carries 162 chairs for two integrated and weighing 140 pounds and is powered by a 250 hp engine, station officials said in a statement.
It is not uncommon to be unused for a T at this age, "said Austin. The machine is checked daily and replaced weekly maintenance, monthly and annual testing and annual inspection by the Council of Maine elevator and tramway safety, "he said.
