San Juan, Puerto Rico (AP) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck the U.S. Caribbean territory on Christmas morning, rattling windows and doors throughout the island, but caused no major damage, have officials said.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 63 miles south-southwest of the capital, San Juan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Blanca Saez, spokesman for the Port Authority told the Associated Press that the airport is operating as usual. These six ceiling panels fell on the American Airlines terminal, but nobody was injured.

The earthquake was only a few miles from the central mountain town of Aguas Buenas centered.

Emergency and police told local media that no damage or injuries were reported.

Heriberto Sauri, director of emergency management, told El Nuevo Dia newspaper that crews would consider building in broad daylight, if necessary.

It could not be reached for comment Friday evening.
